Helena works as an Integrative Body Mind Psychotherapist (Somatic Psychotherapist) and is fully qualified as a Core Energetics Psychotherapist in Inglewood, Perth, Western Australia WA. She provides counselling and psychotherapy, sees men and women individually and also works with couples. She works with a range of issues, including personal and relationship difficulties, parenting concerns, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, low self-esteem, hopelessness, weight problems, grief and loss, stress relief, life transitions, addictions and codependence. Helena is also trained as a Shamanic Practitioner.
As well as seeing clients in Perth, Helena also offers phone, skype and email counselling for remotely situated clients. She offers a one on one therapy session for $100 that is grounded in Integrative Body Mind Psychotherapy™.
Helena places great importance in providing an environment where you feel safe to explore your difficulties. In a private setting, Helena provides a supportive, empathetic and confidential environment to examine your situation. Her emphasis is on creating a good therapeutic relationship, which is a very important factor in successful therapy. She listens carefully and attunes to your situation, offering feedback and suggestions where appropriate. Her intention is to work collaboratively for deep exploration, to help explore unconscious beliefs, change self-defeating patterns and set tangible goals with you.
Helena draws on many therapeutic sources and strategies which complement each other very well. In her integrative approach, she examines how your life issues and history correlate with your bodily symptoms and how they influence each other and work together. Certain complaints often point to the need to correct imbalances that exist within other vital aspects of your life.
Her personal experience of Integrative Body Mind Psychotherapy is that it goes beyond “band-aiding” the symptoms and having to resort to using coping and compensation techniques. Instead her objective is to treat and heal the underlying causes of your issues. She understands how thoughts, feelings and the inner life are sustained and reinforced in your body. She explores limiting beliefs, energetic familial patterns and helps you to discover and harness internal resources, to vitalize you and restore your balance, harmony, and health. Her intention is to release deeply held patterns safely, thereby providing you with contentment and vitality. Helena’s vision is to enable you live an enriched and integrated life.
Originally from Ireland, Helena is married to Richard Boyd and they have been in a loving and committed relationship together for nearly 20 years and have a lovely daughter together. Prior to practicing as a therapist, she worked for 13 years as a Software and Electronic Engineer. She understands the pressures of working in fast-paced and deadline-driven work environments.
Helena has a strong affinity with her Irish Celtic origins and in recent years, she organised a series of Core Energetics retreats and workshops in Ireland. She draws on the wisdom, warmth and congeniality of her culture. The old Irish concept of ‘Anam Chara’ (soul friend) is as applicable now as it was in ancient times. Her philosophy is that attuning to another is a deeply spiritual thing, as it involves an ability to honour and have affinity with another person, and a genuine ability to forget ourselves when we interrelate.
Modern culture strongly encourages us to be self-absorbed and follow a path of personal power and success. Yet in many cases we can be leading a life conforming to what we believe others may want us to be, which may be mentally stimulating but emotionally unfulfilling. The transition in Helena’s own career in her 30s from the engineering world to retrain as a psychotherapist and later become a mother, helped her to realise that true happiness involves integration of head with heart, and mind with body.
Helena has a strong interest in Jungian Psychoanalysis and Transpersonal Psychology. She is also passionate about instinctive child rearing practices such as Mindful Parenting, Attachment Parenting, Connection Parenting, The Continuum Concept, and the Nature vs. Nurture debate. She promotes the importance of the young child bonding with the primary caregiver, normally the mother, in the first couple of years of life. This enables social and emotional development to occur in the child normally, as later relationships build on the patterns developed in the first relationship.
Helena has a personal understanding of the significant physical and emotional stress associated with becoming a mother and parent. She is skilled in providing support and advice for women preparing for pregnancy, experiencing Postnatal Depression (PND) and transitioning to motherhood.
A Celtic Blessing
May the light of your soul guide you.
