Confidentiality is essential for creating a safe and trusting therapeutic environment. We conduct our practice in a safe, ethical, non-judgmental and respectful manner. At Energetics Institute, we observe strict confidentiality in line with professional ethical standards set for Psychotherapists and Counsellors in Australia. The information provided to Energetics Institute therapists is protected in accordance with the National Privacy Principles, as outlined in the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988. You can feel secure sharing personal information with us, knowing that both your discussions in therapy and any details collected during the intake process are treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality.
Unless required by law, legislation or statute, your therapist is the only person authorised to access your consultation notes without your consent. Within professional standards and normal professional practices, de-identified information may be presented to a clinical supervisor. If notes are taken by your psychotherapist, they will always be kept in a locked and secure location that can only be accessed by them.
Typically, Energetics Institute retains client records for five years, but we reserve the right to responsibly dispose of them after the client relationship ends.
Your information will remain confidential and will only be shared with a third party if you provide written consent, except if a court issues a subpoena and therapists are required by law to provide relevant information. A psychotherapist may also breach confidentiality if the client is a danger to themselves or others (e.g. a threat to suicide, self-harm or assault on another person). If it becomes necessary to breach the confidentiality between a patient and client, every attempt will be made to thoroughly discuss with the client beforehand.
The use of computers in our business administration follows industry and I.T. best practice where possible. We only capture in electronic format necessary email and postal contact information. You may also view our Privacy Policy which has more information.
This information may be maintained on hard copy or an electronic database or software programs such as for accountancy purposes and available only to us, or its authorised agents for the purposes of account maintenance, billing, other relevant communications or debt collection.
Except as stated, identifiable information is not passed on to third parties without the participant’s consent, unless required by law, statute, legislation or public safety.
